Common Rebuild Questions

When should I service my Feal coilovers? We recommend servicing coilovers every 50,000 miles in most cases. For race track use, our recommended service interval is much tighter.

Why should I service my coilovers? High performance coilovers operate with higher internal pressure, produce higher compression and rebound forces, are designed with tighter tolerances, and have more moving parts compared to OEM shocks.

What about race cars? We prefer to service the coilovers every race season on our own Feal Suspension competitive race cars. In most cases there is nothing worn out, but it gives peace of mind that after a season of jumping over rumble strips or unintentionally heading off track nothing wore out of spec. Even if you have smooth seasons without any incidents, consider servicing the coilovers every 1,000 miles on a purpose-built race car.

Can I buy wear parts and do it myself? The short answer is no. Here’s why:

      1. To maintain Feal Suspension quality standard. To properly rebuild a Feal cartridge, there are specific torque specs for threaded components, a specific bleeding procedure, and a specific technique required to properly execute the rebuild. This requires precision to properly build a Feal cartridge and only trained Feal technicians are able to execute this task with repeatable results. The last thing we want to do is sell you wear parts and then have the shock rebuilt in a way that compromises the Feal Suspension quality standard.
      2. One wear item is an indicator that more parts may be needed. From over a decade of rebuilding high performance shocks (many different brands), we realize that often times wear parts alone are not enough to properly rebuild a high performance shock. Many times these other worn out components are only identified after the cartridge is apart. These other wear parts may include coatings that are worn beyond spec, a slightly bent shock body and/or shock shaft (only noticeable with a dial indicator), and other worn out cartridge hardware. If you’d rather not send in your shocks for the rebuild service, then you can purchase a complete cartridge and replace that on your own. The complete cartridge handles all of those listed potential wear parts at once.
      3. Authorized service centers allow service by trained technicians. Currently there is one North American center and one European center authorized to perform these services.
